N2  - In dieser Arbeit wird ein historischer Fallbericht des bis heute weit über seine Landesgrenzen bekannten italienischen Kriminalanthropologen Cesare Lombroso (1835–1909) vorgestellt. In diesem Fallbericht wird der berüchtigte und psychisch auffällige Dieb Pietro Bersone mit Hilfe eines sog. Hydrosphygmographen überführt, einem zur damaligen Zeit neuartigen technischen Gerät, das den Puls nicht-invasiv aufzeichnen konnte. Lombroso ist vermutlich einer der ersten, wenn nicht sogar der erste, der durch den Einsatz eines solchen Geräts die Idee zum „Lügendetektor“ vorweggenommen hat. Die vorgestellte Textstelle aus Lombrosos Buch „Neue Fortschritte in den Verbrecherstudien“ ist daher ein besonderes Fundstück auch für die Geschichte der Polygraphie.
N2  - This paper presents a historical case report by the Italian criminal anthropologist Cesare Lombroso (1835–1909), who is still well known far beyond his national borders. In this case report, the notorious and psychologically conspicuous thief Pietro Bersone is convicted with the help of a so-called hydrosphygmograph, a technical device that was new at the time and was able to record the pulse non-invasively. Lombroso was probably one of the first, if not the first, to anticipate the idea of a “lie detector” by using such a device. The passage from Lombroso’s book “New Progress in Criminal Studies” is therefore a special find for the history of the polygraph.
