Data formats for communication between freight tram operator and forwarder
- Environmental aspects, efforts to reduce traffic congestion, shorter delivery times and an expected ongoing increase in freight traffic are only some of the partly contradictory challenges that the logistics industry has been facing for years. The use of passenger trams for freight transport in cities is one of the concepts to meet these challenges. The use of passenger trams for freight transport in cities is one of the concepts to meet these challenges. The idea as such is not a new one and has already been tested and practiced in earlier times as well as in recent years. However current concepts suffer from a lack of an integrated concept of IT solutions in logistics. This article presents the logistics and operator concept needed for this and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) platform required on the IT side to coordinate all stakeholders involved. In particular, the newly developed data formats as well as the use of existing standard formats for data exchange from public passenger transport and the integration of existing systems are discussed.…
