The start of drilling the ultradeep hole is planned for this year aiming to reach a depth of 10000 to 12000m. Numerous geoscientific data are not only retrieved by taking rock and fluid samples but also by means of measuring probes. The article describes how the magnetic susceptibility of the rock material is measured at ambient temperatures of about 300°C and at pressures of almost 2kbar. It is also shown how these data are transmitted from probe to the control computer via a 13km long borehole cable.show moreshow less
