PET and SPECT in Psychiatry showcases the combined expertise of renowned authors whose dedication to the investigation of psychiatric disease through nuclear medicine technology has achieved international recognition. The classical psychiatric disorders as well as other subjects – such as suicide, sleep, eating disorders, and autism – are discussed and the latest results in functional neuroimaging are detailed. Most chapters are written jointly by a clinical psychiatrist and a nuclear medicine expert to ensure a multidisciplinary approach. This state of the art compendium will be valuable to all who have an interest in the field of neuroscience, from the psychiatrist and the radiologist/nuclear medicine specialist to the interested general practitioner and cognitive psychologist. PET and SPECT of Neurobiological Systems combines the expertise of renowned authors whose dedication to the development of novel probes and techniques for the investigation of neurobiological systems has achieved international recognition. Various aspects of neurotransmission in the brain are discussed, such as visualization and quantification of (more than 20 different) neuroreceptors, neuroinflammatory markers, transporters, and enzymes as well as neurotransmitter synthesis, β-amyloid deposition, cerebral blood flow, and the metabolic rate of glucose. The latest results in probe development are also detailed.

Photonics meet digital art

The paper focuses on the work of an interdisciplinary project between photonics and digital art. The result is a poster collection dedicated to the International Year of Light 2015. In addition, an internet platform was created that presents the project. It can be accessed at http://www.magic-of-light.org/iyl2015/index.htm. From the idea to the final realization, milestones with tasks and steps will be presented in the paper. As an interdisciplinary project, students from technological degree programs were involved as well as art program students. The 2015 Anniversaries: Alhazen (1015), De Caus (1615), Fresnel (1815), Maxwell (1865), Einstein (1905), Penzias Wilson, Kao (1965) and their milestone contributions in optics and photonics will be highlighted.
An energy oriented design concept was developed within the research project PHOTOPUR which has the development of a PV powered water cleaning system as main focus. During a wine season Plant Protection Products (PPP) are several times sprayed on plants to protect them of undesired insects and herbs or avoid hazardous fungus
types. A work package of the project partner INES in Offenburg led to a design introducing energy profiling already in the early beginning of a product design. The concept is based on three pillars respecting first the
requirements of the core process making up filtering and cleaning and secondary aspects which run, support, maintain and monitor the system to secure availability and product reliability.
The presented paper shows that the results of the design tools guided the developers to assemble a functional model of the water decontamination unit which was manually tested with its concatenated steps of the water cleaning process.
The PHOTOPUR project aims to develop a photocatalytic process as a type of AOPs (Advanced Oxidation Processes) for the elimination of plant protection products (PPP) of the cleaning water used to wash sprayers. At INES a PV based energy supply for the photocatalytic cleaning system was developed within the framework of two bachelor theses and assembled as a demonstration unit. Then the system was step by step extended with further process automation features and pushed to a remote operating device. The final system is now available as a mobile unit mounted on a lab table. The latest step was the photocatalytic reactor module which completed the first PHOTOPUR prototype. The system is actually undergoing an intensive testing phase with performance checks at the consortium partners. First results give an overview about the successful operation.
Photovoltaics Energy Prediction Under Complex Conditions for a Predictive Energy Management System

Die Erfindung betrifft eine Photovoltaik-Stromversorgungsvorrichtung, insbesondere vom öffentlichen Stromnetz unabhängige Photovoltaik-Stromversorgungsvorrichtung, mit einem positiven (204) und einem negativen (206) Lastanschluss für den Anschluss einer elektrischen Last, mit einer Mehrzahl von photovoltaischen Zellen (104) und einer wiederaufladbaren Batterie (5), welche wenigstens zwei in Serie geschaltete Batteriezellen (112) umfasst. Nach der Erfindung sind die photovoltaischen Zellen (104) zu einer der Anzahl der Batteriezellen (112) entsprechenden Anzahl von seriell verbundenen Teilstrings (108) verschaltet und jeder Teilstring (108) ist mit einem positiven Teilstringanschluss mit einem Pluspol und mit einem negativen Teilstringanschluss mit einem Minuspol einer zugeordneten Batteriezelle (112) oder mehreren zugeordneten parallel geschalteten Batteriezellen (112) verbunden. Dabei kann jeder Teilstring (108) zwischen dem positiven und negativen Teilstringanschluss eine maximale Leerlaufspannung erzeugen, die kleiner oder gleich einer vorgegebenen Ladeschlussspannung der zugeordneten Batteriezelle (112) oder der zugeordneten parallel geschalteten Batteriezellen (112) ist. Weiterhin betrifft die Erfindung eine Schaltungsanordnung zum Laden einer wiederaufladbaren Batterie, die zur Realisierung einer derartigen Photovoltaik-Stromversorgungsvorrichtung geeignet ist.
We introduce an open source python framework named PHS-Parallel Hyperparameter Search to enable hyperparameter optimization on numerous compute instances of any arbitrary python function. This is achieved with minimal modifications inside the target function. Possible applications appear in expensive to evaluate numerical computations which strongly depend on hyperparameters such as machine learning. Bayesian optimization is chosen as a sample efficient method to propose the next query set of parameters.

Haptics on the other side, widens the bandwidth and could also replace senses (sense switching) for impaired. Haptic technologies are often limited to point-wise actuation. Here, we show that actuation in two-dimensional matrices instead creates a richer input. We describe the construction of a full-body garment for haptic communication with a distributed actuating network. The garment is divided into attachable-detachable panels or add-ons that each can carry a two dimensional matrix of actuating haptic elements. Each panel adds to an enhanced sensoric capability of the human- garment system so that together a 720° system is formed. The spatial separation of the panels on different body locations supports semantic and theme-wise separation of conversations conveyed by haptics. It also achieves directional faithfulness, which is maintaining any directional information about a distal stimulus in the haptic input.
Es wird ein neuer Ansatz zur Bestimmung des Abstands zweier oder mehrerer Smartphones zueinander vorgestellt. Dabei wird die Position des jeweiligen Smartphones im Raum bzw. im Gelände bezüglich eines Referenzpunkts (Spatial Anchor Point) ermittelt. Über einen zentralen Server tauschen die Smartphones ihre Position relativ zum Referenzpunkt aus und können daraus die Abstände zueinander berechnen. Unterschreitet der Abstand zweier Smartphones einen Schwellwert (< 2 m), erfolgt eine entsprechende Signalisierung auf den Smartphones.

Aerosol particles play an important role in the climate system by absorbing and scattering radiation and influencing cloud properties. They are also one of the biggest sources of uncertainty for climate modeling. Many climate models do not include aerosols in sufficient detail due to computational constraints. To represent key processes, aerosol microphysical properties and processes have to be accounted for. This is done in the ECHAM-HAM (European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecast-Hamburg-Hamburg) global climate aerosol model using the M7 microphysics, but high computational costs make it very expensive to run with finer resolution or for a longer time. We aim to use machine learning to emulate the microphysics model at sufficient accuracy and reduce the computational cost by being fast at inference time. The original M7 model is used to generate data of input–output pairs to train a neural network (NN) on it. We are able to learn the variables’ tendencies achieving an average R² score of 77.1%. We further explore methods to inform and constrain the NN with physical knowledge to reduce mass violation and enforce mass positivity. On a Graphics processing unit (GPU), we achieve a speed-up of up to over 64 times faster when compared to the original model.

Selbsttests in Lernmanagementsystemen (LMS) ermöglichen es Studierenden, den eigenen Lernfortschritt einzuschätzen. Das didaktische Konzept Physik durch Informatik (PDI) ist charakterisiert durch die Nutzung einer Programmiersprache zur Lösungseingabe bei Mathematik und Physik-Aufgaben. Im Gegensatz zur Lösungseingabe durch Zahlenwerte oder im Antwort-Auswahl-Verfahren erfordert die Implementierung einer Lösung in einer Programmiersprache eine höhere Kompetenzstufe.
Die Vorlesung Physik ist ein grundlegender Baustein der meisten Ingenieursstudiengänge und stellt für viele Studienanfänger eine Hürde zum Studienstart da. Die Vorkenntnisse der Studienanfänger sind zunehmend heterogen und der sichere Umgang mit physikalischen Konzepten erfordert mehr oder wenig Übung, um diese zu festigen oder auch erstmals einzuführen. Um dieses Üben zu ermöglichen, wurde für die Vorlesung "Physik 1" in den Studiengängen Maschinenbau, Werkstofftechnik, Mechatronik, Biomechanik, Biotechnologie und Umwelt- und Verfahrenstechnik der Hochschule Offenburg ein E-Tutorium erarbeitet, das die Übungsaufgaben in Form von 10 Online-Selbsttest mit jeweils vier Übungsaufgaben anbietet. Die Selbsttests beinhalten dabei typische Aufgabenstellungen, deren Zahlenwerte (Masse, Geschwindigkeit usw.) bei jedem Aufruf der Aufgabe variieren. Dadurch lassen sich die Selbsttests zum selbständigen Üben nutzen. Ein reines Abschreiben einer Musterlösung ist durch die veränderlichen Zahlenwerte darüber hinaus unmöglich. Wir beschreiben eine Methode zur effizienten Erzeugung der Moodle-basierten Selbsttests mit Hilfe der Software R/exams und berichten über die Erfahrungen beim ersten Einsatz.
Die industrielle Kommunikation war früher von relativ eingeschränkten, geschlossenen Feldbussystemen geprägt. Mit der zunehmenden Öffnung von Automatisierungsnetzen durch die horizontale und vertikale Integration in Produktionsanlagen entstehen gefährliche Angriffsflächen, die zum Diebstahl von Produktionsgeheimnissen, der Manipulation oder dem kompletten Lahmlegen der Produktionsprozesse führen können. Hieraus ergeben sich grundlegend neue Anforderung an die Datensicherheit, denen mit innovativen Lösungsansätzen begegnet werden muss.
Ziel des Forschungsvorhabens „SecureField“ war es, die Umsetzbarkeit und Anwendbarkeit des Ansatzes „(D)TLS-over-Anything“ zu untersuchen und nachzuweisen, sowie einen Werkzeugkasten zur Definition und Implementierung entsprechender Sicherheitslösungen vorzubereiten. Als langjährig etablierter Standard im IT-Umfeld stellte sich das (Datagram) Transport Layer Security ((D)TLS) Protokoll in Kombination mit einer industrie- bzw. automatisierungskompatiblen Public-Key-Infrastruktur (PKI) als äußerst vielversprechende Möglichkeit dar, Datensicherheit auch im OT-Umfeld zu erzielen. Hierbei sollten insbesondere KMU adressiert werden, für welche eigene Entwicklungsarbeiten in diesem Umfeld häufig zu aufwändig und technisch sowie wirtschaftlich zu riskant sind.
Mit „SecureField“ konnten Ergebnisse auf mehreren Ebenen erzielt werden. Zunächst konnte im Projektverlauf ein umfassendes und generisches Konzept zur Ende-zu-Ende-Absicherung von Kommunikationspfaden und -protokollen im industriellen Umfeld erarbeitet werden. Dieses Konzept besteht aus einem generischen Kommunikationsmodell sowie aus einem generischen Authentifikationsmodell.
Social-Media-Marketing ist für Kommunen ein wichtiges Instrument, mit ihren vielfältigen Zielgruppen zu interagieren. Gerade vor dem Hintergrund der zahlreichen Herausforderungen, mit denen Kommunen konfrontiert sind, bieten Social-Media-Aktivitäten großes Potenzial, diesen zumindest partiell zu begegnen. Ein erfolgreicher Einsatz von Social Media setzt einen gut durchdachten Planungsprozess voraus. Im Rahmen dieses Beitrages werden ein solcher Planungsprozess sowie einige wichtige Implementierungsmöglichkeiten für Kommunen vorgestellt.
Die Industrie wird mehr denn je konfrontiert mit verkürzten Durchlaufzeiten, zunehmenden Forderungen im Hinblick auf die Produkthaftung und steigenden Ansprüchen an das Qualitäts-Management wie z.B. DIN/ISO 9001. Hinzu kommen Faktoren wie die Globalisierung. Internationale Kooperationen führen zu einer parallelen und koordinierten Zusammenarbeit verschiedener Einheiten eines Unternehmens einerseits und verschiedener Unternehmen andererseits. Ein probater Ansatz, diesen Herausforderungen mit Hilfe von Softwarelösungen gerecht zu werden, verbirgt sich hinter dem Kürzel PLM (Product-Lifecycle-Management). PLM soll ermöglichen, die Produkte schneller und besser zur Marktreife zu bringen, indem allgegenwärtig Informationen zu Produkt und Produktion bereitstehen, Entscheidungen und Abläufe besser abgesichert und zudem die Kosten gesenkt werden können. PLM umfasst das Cross Enterprise Engineering als Nachfolger von Simultaneous Engineering und Concurrent Design sowie das Management der auf das Produkt bezogenen geistigen Eigentumsrechte. Beide Methoden basieren darauf, die Engineering-Tätigkeiten über den gesamten Produktlebenszyklus organisatorisch und systemtechnisch zu unterstützen. PLM reiht sich zusammen mit CRM (Customer-Relationship-Management), SCM (Supply-Chain-Management), MRP (Material Resource Planning) und ERM (Enterprise-Resource-Management) in die strategischen Backbones eines Unternehmens ein. Um PLM zu verstehen, muss man sich zunächst mit den Funktionen eines Systems zum Produktdaten-Management (PDM) befassen: Diese beinhalten im Wesentlichen die Verwaltung von Produktdaten und Konstruktionsprozessen, die Gruppentechnik und Klassifikation, das Ein- und Ausgabe-Management sowie die Integration mit den Erzeugersystemen (CAD-M, CAD-E, Office etc.) und mit der Produktplanung und -steuerung (PPS). PLM-Systeme sind evolutionär aus den existierenden PDM-Systemen entstanden, enthalten immer deren gesamte PDM-Funktionen als Basis. PLM integriert darüber hinaus alle produktrelevanten Informationen und Prozesse innerhalb eines Unternehmens über verschiedene Standorte hinweg und außerhalb mit Zulieferern, Partnern und Kunden, wobei hierfür das Internet eine wesentliche Rolle spielt.
This paper evaluates the implementation of Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols suitable for massive access connectivity in 5G multi-service networks. The access protocol extends multi-packet detection receivers based on Physical Layer Network Coding (PLNC) decoding and Coded Random Access protocols considering practical aspects to implement one-stage MAC protocols for short packet communications in mMTC services. Extensions to enhance data delivery phase in two- stage protocols are also proposed. The assessment of the access protocols is extended under system level simulations where a suitable link to system interface characterization has been taken into account.
A polarization mode dispersion measurement set-up based on a Mach-Zehnder Interferometer was realized. Measurements were carried out on short high-birefringent fibers and on long standard telecommunication single-mode fibers. In order to ensure high accurate results, special emphasis was placed on the evaluation of the interference pattern. The procedure will be described in detail and practical measurement results will be presented.
This report examines exporters’ challenges and possible solutions for public intervention to promote foreign trade. Based on fieldwork conducted in Georgia, we explore which policy approaches can help to stimulate Georgian exports further. Our outcomes show that exporters face substantial barriers such as navigating complex trade regulations, lack of knowledge about target markets, trade finance gaps, as well as new export promotion programs (EPPs) in competitor countries. Other upper-middle-income countries can learn from our results that exporters can significantly benefit from a comprehensive export promotion strategy combined with an ecosystem-based “team” approach. EPPs related to awareness and capacity building in Georgia should be part of this strategy, focusing on challenges such as a lack of knowledge about trade practices and international business skills. Other EPPs must help to mitigate related market failures, as information gathering is costly, and firms have no incentive to share this information with competitors. Furthermore, targeted marketing support and customer matchmaking can answer Georgian exporters’ challenges, such as lack of market access and low sector visibility. Our results also show that public intervention through financial support and risk mitigation is essential for firms with an international orientation. The high-quality, rich outcomes provide significant value for other upper-middle-income countries by exploring the example of Georgia’s contemporary circumstances in an in-depth manner based on extensive interviews and document analysis. Limitations include that our work primarily relies on qualitative data and further research could involve a quantitative study with a diverse range of sectors.

Außerdem werden poröse Massen und Formkörper, die mit diesem Verfahren erhältlich sind, beschrieben und deren Verwendung.
Es wird ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines nicht geschäumten porösen monolithischen oder faserförmigen Produkts aus anorganischem Polymer beschrieben, bei dem Wasserglas mit einem Carbonat und/oder Amid in bestimmten Mengen in Gegenwart von Wasser gehärtet wird. Außerdem werden monolithische Chromatographiesäulen und -platten, geträgerte Metall-Katalysatoren und Vliese beschrieben.
La industria del bacanora en Sonora, México, enfrenta la influencia de una compleja red de factores culturales, tecnológicos, económicos y legales que inhiben su desarrollo. Ello ocurre pese al esfuerzo institucional por radicar un marco normativo que elimine la práctica de los métodos informales de elaboración que derivan en calidades heterogéneas de licor. El conseguirlo se complica ante la dificultad que enfrentan los actores de esta industria para implementar prácticas efectivas de verificación de las normas vigentes en los confines de la geografía de la Denominación de Origen. En este documento se describe el uso de un prototipo de espectrómetro Raman por transformada de Fourier para analizar cualitativamente muestras desconocidas de bacanora. Este dispositivo se construyó con el uso de un interferómetro Michelson convencional, un contador de fotones de diseño propio y un foto-detector de referencia. Los resultados del trabajo confirman que dada su naturaleza de diseño y construcción, este instrumento de medición y su efectiva técnica de operación a bajo costo, constituye una alternativa viable, adaptable fácilmente a las necesidades de los actores productivos e institucionales, para asistirlos en la elaboración de bacanora y a la verificación de su calidad conforme a los criterios de la normatividad.
Practical exercises are a crucial part of many curricula. Even simple exercises can improve the understanding of the underlying subject. Most experimental setups require special hardware. To carry out e. g. a lens experiments the students need access to an optical bench, various lenses, light sources, apertures and a screen. In our previous publication we demonstrated the use of augmented reality visualization techniques in order to let the students prepare with a simulated experimental setup. Within the context of our intended blended learning concept we want to utilize augmented or virtual reality techniques for stationary laboratory exercises. Unlike applications running on mobile devices, stationary setups can be extended more easily with additional interfaces and thus allow for more complex interactions and simulations in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). The most significant difference is the possibility to allow interactions beyond touching a screen. The LEAP Motion controller is a small inexpensive device that allows for the tracking of the user’s hands and fingers in three dimensions. It is conceivable to allow the user to interact with the simulation’s virtual elements by the user’s very hand position, movement and gesture. In this paper we evaluate possible applications of the LEAP Motion controller for simulated experiments in augmented and virtual reality. Plastics are used today in many areas of the automotive, aerospace and mechanical engineering industries due to their lightweight potential and ease of processing. Additive manufacturing is applied more and more frequently, as it offers a high degree of design freedom and eliminates the need for complex tools. However, the application of additively manufactured components made of plastics have so far been limited due to their comparatively low strength. For this reason, processes that offer additional reinforcement of the plastic matrix using fibers made of high-strength materials have been developed. However, these components represent a composite of different materials produced on the basis of fossil raw materials, which are difficult to recycle and generally not biodegradable.
Therefore, this paper will explore the potential for new composite materials whose matrix consists of a bio-based plastic. In this investigation, it is assumed that the matrix is reinforced with a fibrous material made of natural fiber to significantly increase the strength. This potential material should offer a lightweight yet strong structure and be biodegradable after use under controlled conditions. Therefore, the state of the art in the use of bio-based materials in 3D printing is first presented. In order to determine the economic boundary conditions, the growth potentials for bio-based materials are analyzed. Also, the recycling prospects for bio-based plastics will also be highlighted. The greenhouse gas emissions and land use to be expected when using bio-based materials are also estimated. Finally, the degradability of the composites is discussed.
We report the use of the Raman spectral information of the chemical compound toluene C7H8 as a reference on the analysis of laboratory-prepared and commercially acquired gasoline-ethanol blends. The rate behavior of the characteristic Raman lines of toluene and gasoline has enabled the approximated quantification of this additive in commercial gasoline-ethanol mixtures. This rate behavior has been obtained from the Raman spectra of gasoline-ethanol blends with different proportions of toluene.
All these Raman spectra have been collected by using a self-designed, frequency precise and low-cost Fourier-transform Raman spectrometer (FT-Raman spectrometer) prototype. This FT-Raman prototype has helped to accurately confirm the frequency position of the main characteristic Raman lines of toluene present on the different gasoline-ethanol samples analyzed at smaller proportions than those commonly found in commercial gasoline-ethanol blends. The frequency accuracy validation has been performed by analyzing the same set of toluene samples with two additional state-of-the-art commercial FT-Raman devices. Additionally, the spectral information has been contrasted, with highly-correlated coefficients as a result, with the values of the standard Raman spectrum of toluene.
Zur Herstellung von Spritzgussformeinsätzen kommen in der Regel spanende Verfahren zum Einsatz. In den letzten Jahren hat sich allerdings auch die additive Herstellung dieser Werkzeuge als zweckmäßig erwiesen. In der Produktentwicklung spielt die Agilität heute eine immer wichtigere Rolle. Um mögliche Potentiale des Additive Tooling im Rahmen des Agile Prototyping und um Unterschiede zu den konventionellen Herstellverfahren aufzuzeigen, werden Angebote für die Fertigung mehrerer Formeinsätze durch eine CNC- und HSC-Fertigung, sowie durch additive Herstellung angefragt und hinsichtlich Beschaffungskosten und -zeiten miteinander verglichen. Zudem erfolgt eine Bewertung der technischen Unterschiede. Aus diesen beiden Betrachtungen kann schließlich ein Profil über die drei Herstellverfahren abgeleitet werden, welches bei der anwendungsfallspezifischen Verfahrensauswahl unterstützen soll.
We describe a prototype for power line communi- cation for grid monitoring. The PLC receiver is used to gain information about the PLC channel and the current state of the power grid. The PLC receiver uses the communication signal to obtain an accurate estimate of the current channel and provides information which can be used as a basis for further processing with the aim to detect partial discharges and other anomalies in the grid. This monitoring of the power grid takes advantage of existing PLC infrastructure and uses the data signals, which are transmitted anyway to obtain a real-time measurement of the channel transfer function and the received noise signal. Since this signal is sampled at a high sampling rate compared to simpler measurement sensors, it contains valuable information about possible degradations in the grid which need to be addressed. While channel measurements are based on a received PLC signal, information about partial discharges or other sources of interference can be gathered by a PLC receiver in the absence of a transmit signal. A prototype based on Software Defined Radio has been developed, which implements the simultaneous communication and sensing for a power grid.
In a Semi-autonomic cloud auditing architecture we weaved in privacy enhancing mechanisms [15] by applying the public key version of the Somewhat homomorphic encryption (SHE) scheme from [4]. It turns out that the performance of the SHE can be significantly improved by carefully deriving relevant crypto parameters from the concrete cloud auditing use cases for which the scheme serves as a privacy enhancing approach. We provide a generic algorithm for finding good SHE parameters with respect to a given use case scenario by analyzing and taking into consideration security, correctness and performance of the scheme. Also, to show the relevance of our proposed algorithms we apply it to two predominant cloud auditing use cases.
In this paper we present a model of the discharge of a lithium–oxygen battery with aqueous electrolyte. Lithium–oxygen batteries (Li–O2) have recently received great attention due to their large theoretical specific energy. Advantages of the aqueous design include the stability of the electrolyte, the long experience with gas diffusion electrodes (GDEs), and the solubility of the reaction product lithium hydroxide. However, competitive specific energies can only be obtained if the product is allowed to precipitate. Here we present a dynamic one-dimensional model of a Li–O2 battery including a GDE and precipitation of lithium hydroxide. The model is parameterized using experimental data from the literature. We demonstrate that GDEs remove power limitations due to slow oxygen transport in solutions and that lithium hydroxide tends to precipitate on the anode side. We discuss the system architecture to engineer where nucleation and growth predominantly occurs and to optimize for discharge capacity.
We present a 3D simulation approach utilising the diffuse interface representation of the phase-field method combined with a heat transfer equation to analyse the thermal conductivity in air-filled aluminium foams with complex cellular structures of different porosity. Algorithmic methods are introduced to create synthetic open-cell foam structures and to compute the thermal conductivity by means of phase-field modelling. A material law for the effective thermal conductivity is derived by determining the appropriate exponent depending on the relative density in the system. The results are compared with the thermal conductivity in massive aluminium and in pure air.
