A platform of an electronic capsule is being developed for multi-task medical assistant application. It includes a near field telemetry unit for bidirectional communication system of 115 KHz low carrier frequency for inductive data transmission suited for human body energy transfer. The system triggers an actuator for drug delivery in various time and release forms via wireless external control, it has the ability to record temperature, measure pH of the body (additional sensors), and retrieve data to the outside. It consists of a 32bit processor, memory, external peripheries, and detection facility. The complete system is designed to fit small-size mass medical application with low power consumption, size of 7x25mm. The system is designed, simulated and emulated on FPGA. A final layout of the complete chip design is still under progress.
Micronization of biochar (BC) may ease its application in agriculture. For example, fine biochar powders can be applied as suspensions via drip-irrigation systems or can be used to produce grnulated fertilizers. However, micronization may effect important physical biochar properties like the water holding capacity (WHC) or the porosity.
Physik durch Informatik
(2022)
The idea of this game is to use a flashcard system to create a short story in a foreign language. The story is developed by a group of people by exchanging sentences via a flashcard system. This way, people can learn from each other without fear of making mistakes because the group members are anonymous.
Flashcards are a well known and proven method to learn and memorise. Such a way of learning is perfectly suited for “learning on the way,” but carrying all the flashcards could be awkward. In this scenario, a mobile device (mobile phone) is an adequate solution. The new mobile device operating system Android from Google allows for writing multimedia-enriched applications.
Social Haptic Communication (SHC) is one of the many tactile modes of communication used by persons with deafblindness to access information about their surroundings. SHC usually involves an interpreter executing finger and hand signs on the back of a person with multi-sensory disabilities. Learning SHC, however, can become challenging and time-consuming, particularly to those who experience deafblindness later in life. In this work, we present PatRec: a mobile game for learning SHC concepts. PatRec is a multiple-choice quiz game connected to a chair interface that contains a 3x3 array of vibration motors emulating different SHC signs. Players collect scores and badges whenever they guess the right SHC vibration pattern, leading to continuous engagement and a better position on a leaderboard. The game is also meant for family members to learn SHC. We report the technical implementation of PatRec and the findings from a user evaluation.
Do you know that for each banana bunch the complete plant must be cut as well? Only in Brazil 440 million trees are planted annually. With an average weight of 30 kg per banana plant you can estimate about 13,5 million tons of banana residues per year. Although there exist some projects to use these residues for the production of valuable products (e.g fibers for textile and paper production) most of this organic waste material is unused and left for composting on the farmland.
The basic idea of this project is to evaluate this organic waste material for converting it to a renewable and CO2 neutral fuel. Therefore, the different parts of the banana plant (heart, leaves and pseudo stem) were analyzed regarding their biogas potential (specific biogas yield and biogas production kinetics). In further studies the effect of mechanical and enzymatic pretreatments of the different parts of the plants was investigated. This examination could then be the basis for an energetic usage of this organic residue.
The biogas batch experiments were performed according to the german guideline VDI 4630 in 2-L-Batch reactors at 37°C. As biogas substrates, the heart, the leaves and the pseudo stem of the banana plant residue with and without enzymatic/mechanical pretreatment were used.
The different parts of the banana plants result in a specific biogas production yield in the range of 260-470 norm liters per kg organic dry mass.
To determine the influence of the mechanical pretreatment (particle size 1-15 mm) on the biogas production kinetics, the kinetic constants were defined and calculated. The reduction of the particle size leads to an improved biogas production kinetics. Therefore experiments will demonstrate, if the results from the batch experiments can be converted in the continuous fed biogas reactor. The experiments of the enzymatic pretreatment are still under investigation.
Background: A disturbed synchronization of the ventricular contraction can cause a highly developed systolic heart failure in affected patients, which can often be explained by a diseased left bundle branch block (LBBB). If medication remains unresponsive, the concerned patients will be treated with a cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) system. The aim of this study was to integrate His bundle pacing into the Offenburg heart rhythm model in order to visualize the electrical pacing field generated by His bundle pacing.
Methods: Modelling and electrical field simulation activities were performed with the software CST (Computer Simulation Technology) from Dessault Systèms. CRT with biventricular pacing is to be achieved by an apical right ventricular electrode and an additional left ventricular electrode, which is floated into the coronary vein sinus. This conventional type of biventricular pacing leads to a reduction of the left ventricular ejection fraction. Furthermore, the non-responder rate of the CRT therapy is about one third of the CRT patients.
Results: His bundle pacing represents a physiological alternative to conventional cardiac pacing and cardiac resynchronization. An electrode implanted in the His bundle emits a stronger electrical pacing field than the electrical pacing field of conventional cardiac pacemakers. The pacing of the His bundle was performed by the Medtronic Select Secure 3830 electrode with pacing voltage amplitudes of 3 V, 2 V and 1.5 V in combination with a pacing pulse duration of 1 ms.
Conclusions: Compared to conventional cardiac pacemaker pacing, His bundle pacing is capable of bridging LBBB conduction disorders in the left ventricle. The His bundle pacing electrical field is able to spread via the physiological pathway in the right and left ventricles for CRT with a narrow QRS-complex in the surface ECG.
Plant oils may be used as a sustainable, nearly CO2neutral fuel for diesel engines. This work investigates experimentally the particulate and gaseous emissions of diesel engines fuelled with different non-esterified, pure plant oils. The data are collected from three engines: a) Common rail 1.7 liter passenger car engine from Opel AG b) 12.8 liter truck engine from VOLVO c) Truck engine from MAN AG.
The emissions of the MAN engine have been used to perform AMES tests to analyze possible health impacts of plant oil operation. Finally, all emission results with plant oils have been compared to traditional gas oils.
Transcatheter aortiv valve implantation is a new safe strategy treatment for patients with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis and high operative risk. The aim of the study was to compare the pre-and post- muiscatheter aortiv valve implantation procedures to determine the atrioventricuktr conduction time as a potential predictor of permanent pacemaker therapy requirement after transcatheter aortiv valve implantation. The transcatheter aortiv valve implantation patients were divided into groups without pacemaker and with dual or single chamber pacemEtker with diffent atrioventrieular conduction time disturbance before and after transcatheter aortiv valve implantation. In heart failure, patients without permanent pacemaker therapy after transcatheter aortiv valve implantation, atrioventricular conduction time was prolonged after transcatheter aortiv valve implantation. In patients with permanent dual chamber pacemaker therapy after transcatheter aortiv valve implantation, atrioventricular conduction time was normalised with dual chaniber atrioventrieuku pacing mode. Atrioventricular conduction time may be a useful parameter to evaluate the risk of post-procedural atrioventricular conduction block and permanent pacemaker therapy in transcatheter north, valve implantation patients.
