Design Thinking wird im Wesentlichen als Methode zur Lösung komplexer Probleme und Entwicklung neuer Ideen verstanden.
Doch das mit dem Design Thinking einhergehende Mindset kann für breite und vielfältige Fragestellungen nutzbar sein und geht weit über die Methodik zur Lösung komplexer Probleme und Entwicklung neuer Ideen hinaus. Es besteht aus den Komponenten Empathie, non-lineare und lineare Denkweise, Experimentierfreude und Offenheit.
Die wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung mit praktischen Anwendungsbeispielen zeigt, wie durch das Design Thinking Mindset der Denkhorizont in Richtung Zukunft erweitert wird. Der Herausgeber Robert Gücker und fünf Autorinnen geben einen fundierten Einblick in das “Design Thinking Mindset”. In einem breiten Spektrum umfassen die Themen des vorliegenden Sammelbandes den Zusammenhang von Design Thinking und Unternehmenskultur, Arbeitszufriedenheit der Mitarbeitenden und Resilienz, die Möglichkeiten der Erreichung des Design Thinking Mindsets durch Workshops und gezielte Führungsentwicklungsmaßnahmen bis hin zur Betrachtung des Herausgebers, der die Metapher der qualitativen Forschung für Design Thinking vorschlägt.
Die wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung der fünf Autorinnen mit der Thematik erfolgt auf Grundlage von umfangreichen Literaturrecherchen und Expertenbefragungen, deren Erkenntnisse auf den Praxiseinsatz übertragen werden. Im Sammelband finden Sie damit in kompakten Beiträgen einen fundierten Überblick an Möglichkeiten und Chancen, wie Unternehmen anhand der Anwendung von Design Thinking bei ihren Mitarbeitenden und Führungskräften einen Mindshift in Richtung Zukunft schaffen und welche Rahmenbedingungen nötig sind, um zu einer resilienten Organisation mit zufriedenen Mitarbeitenden zu werden.
Die Ergebnisse der Beiträge bestätigen eine positive Wirkung in Richtung Zukunftskompetenzen, die sich aus einer Haltung ergeben, welches dem Design Thinking Mindset entspricht.
Mit praktischen Anwendungsbeispielen bietet das Buch nicht nur Personalverantwortlichen sowie Organisationsentwicklern wissenschaftlich fundiert und praxisnah neue Ansätze.
Purpose
To summarize the mechanical loading of the spine in different activities of daily living and sports.
Methods
Since the direct measurement is not feasible in sports activities, a mathematical model was applied to quantify spinal loading of more than 600 physical tasks in more than 200 athletes from several sports disciplines. The outcome is compression and torque (normalized to body weight/mass) at L4/L5.
Results
The data demonstrate high compressive forces on the lumbar spine in sport-related activities, which are much higher than forces reported in normal daily activities and work tasks. Especially ballistic jumping and landing skills yield high estimated compression at L4/L5 of more than ten times body weight. Jumping, landing, heavy lifting and weight training in sports demonstrate compression forces significantly higher than guideline recommendations for working tasks.
Conclusion
These results may help to identify acute and long-term risks of low back pain and, thus, may guide the development of preventive interventions for low back pain or injury in athletes.
Appraising the Methodological Quality of Sports Injury Video Analysis Studies: The QA-SIVAS Scale

Background
Video analysis (VA) is commonly used in the assessment of sports injuries and has received considerable research interest. Until now, no tool has been available for the assessment of study quality. Therefore, the objective of this study was to develop and evaluate a valid instrument that reliably assesses the methodological quality of VA studies.
Methods
The Quality Appraisal for Sports Injury Video Analysis Studies (QA-SIVAS) scale was developed using a modified Delphi approach including expert consensus and pilot testing. Reliability was examined through intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC3,1) and free-marginal kappa statistics by three independent raters. Construct validity was investigated by comparing QA-SIVAS with expert ratings by using Kendall’s tau analysis. Rating time was studied by applying the scale to 21 studies and computing the mean time for rating per study article.
Results
The QA-SIVAS scale consists of an 18-item checklist addressing the study design, data source, conduct, report, and discussion of VA studies in sports injury research. Inter- and intra-rater reliability were excellent with ICCs > 0.97. Expert ratings revealed a high construct validity (0.71; p < 0.001). Mean rating time was 10 ± 2 min per article.
Conclusion
QA-SIVAS is a reliable and valid instrument that can be easily applied to sports injury research. Future studies in the field of VA should adhere to standardized methodological criteria and strict quality guidelines.
Novel approaches for the design of assistive technology controls propose the usage of eye tracking devices such as for smart wheelchairs and robotic arms. The advantages of artificial feedback, especially vibrotactile feedback, as opposed to their use in prostheses, have not been sufficiently explored. Vibrotactile feedback reduces the cognitive load on the visual and auditory channel. It provides tactile sensation, resulting in better use of assistive technologies. In this study the impact of vibration on the precision and accuracy of a head-worn eye tracking device is investigated. The presented system is suitable for further research in the field of artificial feedback. Vibration was perceivable for all participants, yet it does not produce any significant deviations in precision and accuracy.
Established robot manufacturers have developed methods to determine and optimize the accuracy of their robots. These methods vary from robot manufacturers to their competitors. Due to the lack of published data, a comparison of robot performance is difficult. The aim of this article is to find methods to evaluate important characteristics of a robot with an accurate and cost-effective setup. A laser triangulation sensor and geometric referenced spheres were used as a base to compare the robot performance.
Background
Internal tibial loading is influenced by modifiable factors with implications for the risk of stress injury. Runners encounter varied surface steepness (gradients) when running outdoors and may adapt their speed according to the gradient. This study aimed to quantify tibial bending moments and stress at the anterior and posterior peripheries when running at different speeds on surfaces of different gradients.
Methods
Twenty recreational runners ran on a treadmill at 3 different speeds (2.5 m/s, 3.0 m/s, and 3.5 m/s) and gradients (level: 0%; uphill: +5%, +10%, and +15%; downhill: –5%, –10%, and –15%). Force and marker data were collected synchronously throughout. Bending moments were estimated at the distal third centroid of the tibia about the medial–lateral axis by ensuring static equilibrium at each 1% of stance. Stress was derived from bending moments at the anterior and posterior peripheries by modeling the tibia as a hollow ellipse. Two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance were conducted using both functional and discrete statistical analyses.
Results
There were significant main effects for running speed and gradient on peak bending moments and peak anterior and posterior stress. Higher running speeds resulted in greater tibial loading. Running uphill at +10% and +15% resulted in greater tibial loading than level running. Running downhill at –10% and –15% resulted in reduced tibial loading compared to level running. There was no difference between +5% or –5% and level running.
Conclusion
Running at faster speeds and uphill on gradients ≥+10% increased internal tibial loading, whereas slower running and downhill running on gradients ≥–10% reduced internal loading. Adapting running speed according to the gradient could be a protective mechanism, providing runners with a strategy to minimize the risk of tibial stress injuries.
Footwear plays a critical role in our daily lives, affecting our performance, health and overall well-being. Well-designed footwear can provide protection, comfort and improved foot functionality, while poorly designed footwear can lead to mobility problems and declines in physical activity. The overall goal of footwear research is to provide a scientific basis for professionals in the field to provide an optimal footwear solution for a given person, for a given task, in a given environment, while using sustainable manufacturing processes. This article suggests potential directions for future research with a focus on athletic footwear biomechanics. Directions include the evidence-based individualisation of footwear, the interaction between design and prolonged use, and improving the sustainability of footwear. The authors also provide a speculative outlook on methodological developments that may provide greater insight into these areas. These developments may include: (1) the use of larger scale, real-world and representative data, (2) the use of 3D printing to create experimental footwear, (3) the advancement of in silico research methods, and (4) furthering multidisciplinary collaboration. If successfully applied in the future, footwear research will contribute to active and healthy lifestyles across the lifespan.
Material flow simulation is a core technology of Industry 4.0. It can analyze and improve large-scale production systems through experimentation with digital simulation models. However, modeling in discrete event simulation is considered as an effortful and time-consuming activity and challenges especially small and medium-sized enterprises. Systematic experiments and what-if-analysis require a large number of models. Modeling and simulation becomes a repetitive activity and the ability to model and simulate instantly becomes crucial for industry, 4.0. However, model generation typically uses specific methods to build models with individual properties for specific physical systems. A general literature review cannot sufficiently describe the current state of model generation. This study aims to provide an analysis of model generation based on the modeling strategy, modeling view, and production system type, as well as model properties and limitations.
Die meisten Webseiten im World Wide Web werden mit Web-Content-Management-Systemen (WCMS) realisiert. In diesem Beitrag werden Ziele, Prinzipien, Funktionen und Architektur dieser wichtigen Infrastruktursysteme für unser tägliches Online-Leben und -Arbeiten vorgestellt.
Nach der Definition der grundlegenden Begriffe werden die Basisprinzipien Content Life Cycle und Trennung von Inhalt, Struktur und Darstellung erläutert. Es folgt die Vorstellung der wichtigen Komponenten von WCMS und deren Funktionalität, wie etwa Asset Management, Benutzerverwaltung und Workflow-Maschine. Zum Schluss wird ein Einblick in die aktuellen Entwicklungen von WCMS gegeben.
Schulen müssen bei ihrer Profilbildung mehr leisten als die reine Marketingpositionierung erfordert. Sie müssen für alle am Schulleben Beteiligten einen Sinn stiften. Es geht letztlich um eine Veränderung der Schulkultur, indem die Grundüberzeugungen und der Sinn und Zweck der Schule klar herausgearbeitet werden. Methoden aus dem Bereich der Entwicklung von Unternehmens- und Organisationskultur können hier wirksam zum Einsatz kommen.
Kundendaten im E-Commerce – Optimierungspotenzial im Checkout-Prozess des deutschen Online-Handels

Die Gestaltung eines benutzungsfreundlichen Checkout-Prozesses ist für den Erfolg des E-Commerce von großer Bedeutung. Die Abfrage der Kundendaten bildet einen wichtigen Teil der Customer Journey. Auf der einen Seite wollen die Handelsunternehmen so viel wie möglich über ihre Kundschaft erfahren, um möglichst zielgenaue Angebote und Marketingmaßnahmen ausspielen und das perfekte Einkaufserlebnis generieren zu können. Auf der anderen Seite möchten sich die Kundinnen und Kunden beim Online-Shopping auf den Kauf konzentrieren und erwarten einen reibungslosen Ablauf. Der Checkout-Prozess ist in diesem Zusammenhang ein kritischer Punkt. Dies spiegelt sich auch in den hohen Warenkorbabbruchraten wider. Um Online-Shoppende nachhaltig zu begeistern, gibt es noch viel Raum für Verbesserungen. Mit dem Ziel, den Status quo im deutschen Online-Handel besser zu verstehen und Usability und User Experience für eine höhere Konvertierungsrate zu optimieren, untersuchte die hier vorgestellte Forschungsarbeit den Anmelde- und Checkout-Prozess der 100 umsatzstärksten Online-Shops in Deutschland. Es werden die Ergebnisse der Studie präsentiert und aufgezeigt, an welchen Stellen Optimierungspotenzial besteht – bspw. bei zu komplizierten Formularen, unnötigen Datenabfragen oder erzwungenen Registrierungen – sowie Vorschläge für die Praxis des Online-Handels diskutiert.
Additive manufacturing enables the production of lightweight and resilient components with extensive design freedom. In the low-cost sector, material extrusion (e.g. Fused Deposition Modeling - FDM) has been the main method used to date. Thus, robust 3D printers and inexpensive 3D materials (polymer filaments) can be used. However, the printing times for FDM are very long and the quality of the dimensions and surfaces is limited. Recently, new processes from the field of Vat polymerization have entered the market. For example, masked stereolithography (mSLA) offers a significant improvement in component quality and build speed through the use of resins and large-area curing at still reasonable costs. Currently, there is only limited knowledge available on the optimal design of components using this young process. In this contribution, design guidelines are developed to determine the possibilities and limitations of mSLA from a design point of view. For this purpose, a number of test geometries are designed and investigated to obtain systematic insights into important design features, such as wall thickness, grooves and holes. In addition, typical problems in additive manufacturing, such as the design of overhangs and fits or the hollowing of components, are investigated. The evaluation of practical 3D printing tests thus provides important parameters that can be transferred to design guidelines of components for additive manufacturing using mSLA.

Die Medienbranche ist seit Jahren von disruptiven Veränderungen betroffen, sodass die Unternehmen und zentralen Akteure in einem dauerhaften Veränderungsmodus sind. Gestiegene Anforderungen an Führungskräfte, Kostendruck und geringe Zeitbudgets für Weiterbildung reduzieren die Möglichkeiten für umfassende Ausbildungsmöglichkeiten. Dieser Beitrag beschreibt einen Lösungsansatz, wie trotz begrenzter Budget- und Zeitressourcen eine individuelle Begleitung von Führungskräften möglich wird. Mit einer Kombination von stärkenorientierter Selbstreflexion und gezielten Impulsen werden Führungskräfte in ihrer Entwicklung als selbstverantwortliche, unternehmerisch denkende Führungskraft gestärkt.
Die Bildungswelt ist im Wandel. Soziale Umbrüche, Digitalisierung, nicht zuletzt die Folgen von Corona-Pandemie und globalen Krisen zwingen Bildungseinrichtungen in Veränderungsprozesse, die neue Anforderungen an Planung, Organisation und Durchführung des Lehrbetriebs stellen. Schulleitungen stehen vor der Herausforderung, die Gegenwart und Zukunft mit allen Unsicherheiten und Einschränkungen neu zu gestalten. Das Buch erläutert die Rahmenbedingungen für eine bewusste Führungskultur, die den Rahmen für eine zukunftsorientierte Organisations- und Lernkultur bildet. Es richtet sich sowohl an Mitglieder von Schulleitungsteams als auch an alle Mitwirkenden im pädagogischen Bereich von Bildungseinrichtungen sowie an Studierende, Referendarinnen und Referendare.
International trade requires sufficient, reliable, and affordable sources of financing. Export credit agencies (ECAs) fill trade finance gaps by offering financing, insurance and guarantees to provide liquidity or mitigate risks. They help to create or secure jobs in the domestic economy. However, comprehensive government support is required to create significant impact. This includes ‘full faith and credit’ of the state. In the context of public foreign trade promotion, full faith and credit is defined as an explicit, direct or indirect, irrevocable, legal commitment to accept all liabilities of an ECA as unconditional obligations of the respective government. Our policy recommendations for countries with relatively young ECAs, for example in Ukraine, Armenia, and Malawi, are to establish a full guarantee in addition to an efficient legal set-up, sufficient capital, and sound risk management of the respective agency. Without full faith and credit, policy goals of fostering economic growth through foreign trade fall short.
Purpose
To (1) identify neuromuscular and biomechanical injury risk factors in elite youth soccer players and (2) assess the predictive ability of a machine learning approach.
Material and Methods
Fifty-six elite male youth soccer players (age: 17.2 ± 1.1 years; height: 179 ± 8 cm; mass: 70.4 ± 9.2 kg) performed a 3D motion analysis, postural control testing, and strength testing. Non-contact lower extremities injuries were documented throughout 10 months. A least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression model was used to identify the most important injury predictors. Predictive performance of the LASSO model was determined in a leave-one-out (LOO) prediction competition.
Results
Twenty-three non-contact injuries were registered. The LASSO model identified concentric knee extensor peak torque, hip transversal plane moment in the single-leg drop landing task and center of pressure sway in the single-leg stance test as the three most important predictors for injury in that order. The LASSO model was able to predict injury outcomes with a likelihood of 58% and an area under the ROC curve of 0.63 (sensitivity = 35%; specificity = 79%).
Conclusion
The three most important variables for predicting the injury outcome suggest the importance of neuromuscular and biomechanical performance measures in elite youth soccer. These preliminary results may have practical implications for future directions in injury risk screening and planning, as well as for the development of customized training programs to counteract intrinsic injury risk factors. However, the poor predictive performance of the final model confirms the challenge of predicting sports injuries, and the model must therefore be evaluated in larger samples.
In this paper, we propose an approach for gait phase detection for flat and inclined surfaces that can be used for an ankle-foot orthosis and the humanoid robot Sweaty. To cover different use cases, we use a rule-based algorithm. This offers the required flexibility and real-time capability. The inputs of the algorithm are inertial measurement unit and ankle joint angle signals. We show that the gait phases with the orthosis worn by a human participant and with Sweaty are reliably recognized by the algorithm under the condition of adapted transition conditions. E.g., the specificity for human gait on flat surfaces is 92 %. For the robot Sweaty, 95 % results in fully recognized gait cycles. Furthermore, the algorithm also allows the determination of the inclination angle of the ramp. The sensors of the orthosis provide 6.9 and that of the robot Sweaty 7.7 when walking onto the reference ramp with slope angle 7.9.
Bewegungsanalysesysteme in der Forschung und für niedergelassene Orthopädinnen und Orthopäden

Hintergrund
Komplexe biomechanische Bewegungsanalysen können für eine Vielzahl orthopädischer Fragestellungen wichtige Informationen liefern. Bei der Beschaffung von Bewegungsanalysesystemen sind neben den klassischen Messgütekriterien (Validität, Reliabilität, Objektivität) auch räumliche und zeitliche Rahmenbedingungen sowie Anforderungen an die Qualifikation des Messpersonals zu berücksichtigen.
Anwendung
In der komplexen Bewegungsanalyse werden Systeme zur Bestimmung der Kinematik, der Kinetik und der Muskelaktivität (Elektromyographie) eingesetzt. Der vorliegende Artikel gibt einen Überblick über Methoden der komplexen biomechanischen Bewegungsanalyse für den Einsatz in der orthopädischen Forschung oder in der individuellen Patientenversorgung. Neben dem Einsatz zur reinen Bewegungsanalyse wird auch der Einsatz von Bewegungsanalyseverfahren im Bereich des Biofeedbacktrainings diskutiert.
Beschaffung
Für die konkrete Anschaffung von Bewegungsanalysesystemen empfiehlt sich die Kontaktaufnahme mit Fachgesellschaften (z. B. Deutsche Gesellschaft für Biomechanik), Hochschulen und Universitäten mit vorhandenen Bewegungsanalyseeinrichtungen oder Vertriebsfirmen im Bereich der Biomechanik.
In an extensive research project, we have assessed the application of different service models by export credit agencies (ECAs) and export-import banks (EXIMs). We conducted interviews with 35 representatives of ECAs and EXIMs from 27 countries. The question guiding this study is: How do ECAs and EXIMs adopt public service models for supporting exporters? We conducted a holistic multiple case study, investigating if and how these organisations apply public service models developed by Schedler and Guenduez, and which roles of the state are relevant. We find that there is a variety of different service models used by ECAs and EXIMs, and that the service model approaches have great potential to learn from each other and innovate existing services.

Complex tourism products with intangible service components are difficult to explain to potential customers. This research elaborates the use of virtual reality (VR) in the field of shore excursions. A theoretical research model based on the technology acceptance model was developed, and hypotheses were proposed. Cruise passengers were invited to test 360° excursion images on a landing page. Data was collected using an online questionnaire. Finally, data was analyzed using the PLS-SEM method. The results provide theoretical implications on technology acceptance model (TAM) research in the field of cruise tourism. Furthermore, the results and implications indicate the potential of virtual 360° shore excursion presentations for the cruise industry.
Gamification is increasingly successful in the field of education and health. However, beyond call-centers and applications in human resources, its utilization within companies remains limited. In this paper, we examine the acceptance of gamification in a large company (with over 17,000 employees) across three generations, namely X, Y, and Z. Furthermore, we investigate which gamification elements are suited for business contexts, such as the dissemination of company principles and facts, or the organization of work tasks. To this end, we conducted focus group discussions, developed the prototype of a gamified company app, and performed a large-scale evaluation with 367 company employees. The results reveal statistically significant intergenerational disparities in the acceptance of gamification: younger employees, especially those belonging to Generation Z, enjoy gamification more than older employees and are most likely to engage with a gamified app in the workplace. The results further show a nuanced range of preferences regarding gamification elements: avatars are popular among all generations, badges are predominantly appreciated by Generations Z and Y, while leaderboards are solely liked by Generation Z. Drawing upon these insights, we provide recommendations for future gamification projects within business contexts. We hope that the results of our study regarding the preferences of the gamification elements and understanding generational differences in acceptance and usage of gamification will help to create more engaging and effective apps, especially within the corporate landscape.
Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is a technology for automating business processes and connecting systems by means of software robots in organizations that is gaining traction and growing out of its infancy. Thus, it is no longer just a question of what is technologically feasible, but rather how this technology can be used most profitably. However, business models for RPA remain underinvestigated in literature. Existing work is highly heterogenous, lacking structure and applicability in practice. To close this gap, we present an approach to sustainably establish RPA as a driver of digitization and automation within a company based on an iterative, holistic view of business models with the Business Model Canvas as analysis tool.
Seit mehr als 40 Jahren wiederholen sich Diskussionen und Kontroversen über Sinn und Unsinn von Informationstechnik (IT) in Bildungseinrichtungen. Wurde bislang über das Arbeiten an und mit PC, Laptop oder Tablet debattiert, drehen sich aktuelle Diskussionen verstärkt um netzbasierte Anwendungen mit Rückkanal für Schülerdaten. Das Schüler*innenverhalten wird per Software ausgewertet, um Lehrinhalte automatisiert und „individualisiert“ anzupassen. Ergänzt werden solche Lernprogramme um Anwendungen der sogenannten „Künstliche Intelligenz“ (KI), die als „Lernbegleiter“ fungieren und zumindest perspektivisch fehlende Lehrkräfte ersetzen (sollen). Damit werden technische Systeme in Schulen etabliert, von denen nicht einmal mehr die Entwickler wissen, was diese Algorithmen genau tun.
Das erfordert einen kritisch-reflektierenden Diskurs. Dafür vertritt Ralf Lankau im vorliegenden Aufsatz die These, dass essenzielle Elemente der Bildung, wie die Erziehung zu Selbstbewusstsein, Reflexion und einer kritischen Bürgerschaft, mit solchen Lernprogrammen verloren gehen.
The paper compares different anti-windup strategies for the current control of inverter-fed permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) controlled by pulse-width modulation. In this respect, the focus is on the drive behavior with a relatively large product of stator frequency and sampling time. A requirement for dynamically high-quality anti-windup measures is, among other things, a sufficiently accurate decoupling of the stator current direct axis and quadrature axis components even at high stator frequencies. Discrete-time models of the electrical subsystem of the PMSM are well suited for this purpose, of which the method found to be the most accurate in a preliminary investigation is used as the basis for all anti-windup methods examined. Simulation studies and measurement results document the performance of the compared methods.
Cast aluminum cylinder blocks are frequently used in gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines because of their light-weight advantage. However, the disadvantage of aluminum alloys is their relatively low strength and fatigue resistance which make aluminum blocks prone to fatigue cracking. Engine blocks must withstand a combination of low-cycle fatigue (LCF) thermal loads and high-cycle fatigue (HCF) combustion and dynamic loads. Reliable computational methods are needed that allow for accurate fatigue assessment of cylinder blocks under this combined loading. In several publications, the mechanism-based thermomechanical fatigue (TMF) damage model DTMF describing the growth of short fatigue cracks has been extended to include the effect of both LCF thermal loads and superimposed HCF loadings. This approach is applied to the finite life fatigue assessment of an aluminum cylinder block. The required material properties related to LCF are determined from uniaxial LCF tests. The additional material properties required for the assessment of superimposed HCF are obtained from the literature for similar materials. The predictions of the model agree well with engine dyno test results. Finally, some improvements to the current process are discussed.
Immunosorbent turnip vein clearing virus (TVCV) particles displaying the IgG-binding domains D and E of Staphylococcus aureus protein A (PA) on every coat protein (CP) subunit (TVCVPA) were purified from plants via optimized and new protocols. The latter used polyethylene glycol (PEG) raw precipitates, from which virions were selectively re-solubilized in reverse PEG concentration gradients. This procedure improved the integrity of both TVCVPA and the wild-type subgroup 3 tobamovirus. TVCVPA could be loaded with more than 500 IgGs per virion, which mediated the immunocapture of fluorescent dyes, GFP, and active enzymes. Bi-enzyme ensembles of cooperating glucose oxidase and horseradish peroxidase were tethered together on the TVCVPA carriers via a single antibody type, with one enzyme conjugated chemically to its Fc region, and the other one bound as a target, yielding synthetic multi-enzyme complexes. In microtiter plates, the TVCVPA-displayed sugar-sensing system possessed a considerably increased reusability upon repeated testing, compared to the IgG-bound enzyme pair in the absence of the virus. A high coverage of the viral adapters was also achieved on Ta2O5 sensor chip surfaces coated with a polyelectrolyte interlayer, as a prerequisite for durable TVCVPA-assisted electrochemical biosensing via modularly IgG-assembled sensor enzymes.
Featherweight Generic Go (FGG) is a minimal core calculus modeling the essential features of the programming language Go. It includes support for overloaded methods, interface types, structural subtyping, and generics. The most straightforward semantic description of the dynamic behavior of FGG programs is to resolve method calls based on runtime type information of the receiver. This article shows a different approach by defining a type-directed translation from FGG− to an untyped lambda-calculus. FGG− includes all features of FGG but type assertions. The translation of an FGG− program provides evidence for the availability of methods as additional dictionary parameters, similar to the dictionary-passing approach known from Haskell type classes. Then, method calls can be resolved by a simple lookup of the method definition in the dictionary. Every program in the image of the translation has the same dynamic semantics as its source FGG− program. The proof of this result is based on a syntactic, step-indexed logical relation. The step index ensures a well-founded definition of the relation in the presence of recursive interface types and recursive methods. Although being non-deterministic, the translation is coherent.
Maintaining stability while walking on arbitrary surfaces or dealing with external perturbations is of great interest in humanoid robotics research. Increasing the system’s autonomous robustness to a variety of postural threats during locomotion is the key despite the need to evaluate noisy sensor signals. The equations of motion are the foundation of all published approaches. In contrast, we propose a more adequate evaluation of the equations of motion with respect to an arbitrary moving reference point in a non-inertial reference frame. Conceptual advantages are, e.g., getting independent of global position and velocity vectors estimated by sensor fusions or calculating the imaginary zero-moment point walking on different inclined ground surfaces. Further, we improve the calculation results by reducing noise-amplifying methods in our algorithm and using specific characteristics of physical robots. We use simulation results to compare our algorithm with established approaches and test it with experimental robot data.
In 4D printing, an additively manufactured component is given the ability to change its shape or function in an intended and useful manner over time. The technology of 4D printing is still in an early stage of development. Nevertheless, interesting research and initial applications exist in the literature. In this work, a novel methodical approach is presented that helps transfer existing 4D printing research results and knowledge into solving application tasks systematically. Moreover, two different smart materials are analyzed, used, and combined following the presented methodical approach to solving the given task in the form of recovering an object from a poorly accessible space. This is implemented by self-positioning, grabbing, and extracting the target object. The first smart material used to realize these tasks is a shape-memory polymer, while the second is a polymer-based magnetic composite. In addition to the presentation and detailed implementation of the methodical approach, the potentials and behavior of the two smart materials are further examined and narrowed down as a result of the investigation. The results show that the developed methodical approach contributes to moving 4D printing closer toward a viable alternative to existing technologies due to its problem-oriented nature.

Das komplexe Zusammenspiel beider Rechtsrahmen sorgt seit langem für Herausforderungen, vor allem hinsichtlich des Anwendungsbereichs des “safe haven” des ASCM und des “Matching”-Mechanismus der OECD. In den vergangenen Jahren hinzugekommen ist die Problematik neuer Instrumente der Exportvor- sowie der Klimafinanzierung. Der folgende Beitrag erörtert Herausforderungen und Lösungsansätze. Er zeigt auf, dass der neue OECD-Konsensus trotz zahlreicher Verbesserungen zentrale rechtliche Probleme nicht behebt.
In order to attract new students, German universities must provide quick and easy access to relevant information. A chatbot can help increase the efficiency in academic advising for prospective students. In this study we evaluate the acceptance and effects of chatbots in German student-university communication. We conducted a qualitative UX-Study with the chatbot prototype of Offenburg University of Applied Sciences (HSO), in order to determine which features are particularly relevant and which requirements are made by the users. The results show that acceptance increases if the chatbot offers quick and adequate assistance, furthermore, our participants preferred an informal communication style and valued friendly and helpful personality traits for chatbots.

Der Beitrag beantwortet diese Frage unter Rückgriff auf Erkenntnisse aus Soziologie und Entscheidungslehre.
Over the last few decades, several grid coupling techniques for hierarchically refined Cartesian grids have been developed to provide the possibility of varying mesh resolution in lattice Boltzmann methods. The proposed schemes can be roughly categorized based on the individual grid transition interface layout they are adapted to, namely cell-vertex or cell-centered approaches, as well as a combination of both. It stands to reason that the specific properties of each of these grid-coupling algorithms influence the stability and accuracy of the numerical scheme. Consequently, this naturally leads to a curiosity regarding the extent to which this is the case. The present study compares three established grid-coupling techniques regarding their stability ranges by conducting a series of numerical experiments for a square duct flow, including various collision models. Furthermore the hybrid-recursive regularized collision model, originally introduced for cell-vertex algorithms with co-located coarse and fine grid nodes, has been adapted to cell-centered and combined methods.
The increasingly stringent CO2 emissions standards require innovative solutions in the vehicle development process. One possibility to reduce CO2 emissions is the electrification of powertrains. The resulting increased complexity, as well as the increased competition and time pressure make the use of simulation software and test benches indispensable in the early development phases. This publication therefore presents a methodology for test bench coupling to enable early testing of electrified powertrains. For this purpose, an internal combustion engine test bench and an electric motor test bench are virtually interconnected. By applying and extending the Distributed Co-Simulation Protocol Standard for the presented hybrid electric powertrain use case, real-time-capable communication between the two test benches is achieved. Insights into the test bench setups, and the communication between the test benches and the protocol extension, especially with regard to temperature measurements, enable the extension to be applied to other powertrain or test bench configurations. The shown results from coupled test bench operations emphasize the applicability. The discussed experiences from the test bench coupling experiments complete the insights.
4D printing (4DP) is an evolutionary step of 3D printing, which includes the fourth dimension, in this case the time. In different time steps the printed structure shows different shapes, influenced by external stimuli like light, temperature, pH value, electric or magnetic field. The advantage of 4DP is the solution of technical problems without the need for complex internal energy supply via cables or pipes. Previous approaches to 4D printing with magnetoresponsive materials only use materials with limited usability (e.g. hydrogels) and complex programming during the manufacturing process (e.g. using magnets on the nozzle). The 4D printing using unmagnetized particles and the later magnetization allows the use of a standard 3D printer and has the advantage of being easily reproducible and relatively inexpensive for further application. Therefore, a magnetoresponsive feedstock filament is produced which shows elastic and magnetic properties. In a first step, pellets are produced by compounding polymer with magnetic particles. In a second step, those pellets are extruded in form of filament. This filament is printed using a conventional printing system for Material Extrusion (MEX-TRB/P). Various prototypes have been printed, deformed and magnetized, which is called programming. In comparison to shape memory polymers (SMP) the repeatability of the movement is better. The results show the possibilities of application and function of magnetoresponsive materials. In addition, an understanding of the behaviour of this novel material is achieved.
In 2015, Google engineer Alexander Mordvintsev presented DeepDream as technique to visualise the feature analysis capabilities of deep neural networks that have been trained on image classification tasks. For a brief moment, this technique enjoyed some popularity among scientists, artists, and the general public because of its capability to create seemingly hallucinatory synthetic images. But soon after, research moved on to generative models capable of producing more diverse and more realistic synthetic images. At the same time, the means of interaction with these models have shifted away from a direct manipulation of algorithmic properties towards a predominance of high level controls that obscure the model's internal working. In this paper, we present research that returns to DeepDream to assess its suit-ability as method for sound synthesis. We consider this research to be necessary for two reasons: it tackles a perceived lack of research on musical applications of DeepDream, and it addresses DeepDream's potential to combine data driven and algorithmic approaches. Our research includes a study of how the model architecture, choice of audio data-sets, and method of audio processing influence the acoustic characteristics of the synthesised sounds. We also look into the potential application of DeepDream in a live-performance setting. For this reason, the study limits itself to models consisting of small neural networks that process time-domain representations of audio. These models are resource-friendly enough to operate in real time. We hope that the results obtained so far highlight the attractiveness of Deep-Dream for musical approaches that combine algorithmic investigation with curiosity driven and open ended exploration.
Current Harmonics Control Algorithm for inverter-fed Nonlinear Synchronous Electrical Machines

Current harmonics are a well known challenge of electrical machines. They can be undesirable as they can cause instabilities in the control, generate additional losses and lead to torque ripples with noise. However, they can also be specifically generated in new methods in order to improve the machine behavior. In this paper, an algorithm for controlling current harmonics is proposed. It can be described as a combination of different PI controllers for defined angles of the machine with repetitive control characteristics for whole revolutions. The controller design is explained and important points where linearization is necessary are shown. Furthermore, the limits are analyzed and, for validation, measurement results with a permanently excited synchronous machine on the test bench are considered.
The nonlinear behavior of inverters is largely impacted by the interlocking and switching times. A method for online identifying the switching times of semiconductors in inverters is presented in the following work. By being able to identify these times, it is possible to compensate for the nonlinear behavior, reduce interlocking time, and use the information for diagnostic purposes. The method is first theoretically derived by examining different inverter switching cases and determining potential identification possibilities. It is then modified to consider the entire module for more robust identification. The methodology, including limitations and boundary conditions, is investigated and a comparison of two methods of measurement acquisition is provided. Subsequently the developed hardware is described and the implementation in an FPGA is carried out. Finally, the results are presented, discussed, and potential challenges are encountered.
The present work describes an extension of current slope estimation for parameter estimation of permanent magnet synchronous machines operated at inverters. The area of operation for current slope estimation in the individual switching states of the inverter is limited due to measurement noise, bandwidth limitation of the current sensors and the commutation processes of the inverter's switching operations. Therefore, a minimum duration of each switching state is necessary, limiting the final area of operation of a robust current slope estimation. This paper presents an extension of existing current slope estimation algorithms resulting in a greater area of operation and a more robust estimation result.
