With recent advancement in chip and microelectronics technology these solutions are evolving to a new generation. Home and building automation is slowly becoming a part of the Internet of Things. Devices in the home are continuously getting connected to the Internet and becoming significantly ubiquitous. In order to salvage the fruits of these emerging technologies and markets, manufacturers are competing by employing different strategies. Some, startups and the ones with enough financial power, try to lead the way out of the bunch by creating innovative solutions (ecosystems) based on a new proprietary technology or by using existing technologies. Others join efforts in form of alliances to develop a standardized solution that could become the de-facto solution for home and building automation. In this paper we take a look at the technology and strategy employed by some of the interesting alliances and ecosystems in the home and building automation sector.show moreshow less
